A lukewarm response for its 2014 Silverado’s front-end has convinced Chevrolet to issue a new facelift for the 2016 model.
But will these new changes be enough to escape the Silverado’s reputed “ugly” and “dated” retro look?
Chevy is certainly trying.
The 2016 model’s grille sports new horizontal vanes. It’s also fitted with a body-coloured section covering its middle and ending below the single-designed squinty headlights. The headlights are paired with twin LED lamps for a more modern feel. The Silverado’s new chunky hood is muscular and aggressive. Its new deep and aerodynamic front bumper is equipped with vertical housings for LED foglights and a large chrome chin.
Based on recent spy photos, we expect some minor changes to be made to the truck’s rear as well.
The 2016 Silverado 1500 lineup will also enjoy a more widespread use of the eight-speed automatic transmission, an updated version of the MyLink infotainment system, and support for Apple’s CarPlay and Android’s Auto.
And we suspect similar changes might be made to GMC’s 2016 Sierra. But more details and photos will become available only as we get closer to the truck’s public debut in the fall.
