AJ’s Nickey Camaro

Comments (0) Featured, Product Reviews

In 2015, AJ Johanson’s Camaro won best in show at the Portland Rose Festival car show. The Nickey edition Camaro turns heads wherever AJ goes because of its stunning exterior and roaring power.

AJ, how did you become a gearhead?

I live in Victoria, the beautiful capital of British Columbia. In June 2018, I bought my 2010 Camaro RS/SS with the Nickey upgrade at Mecum Auctions in Portland, Oregon. I love the power of my Camaro—it’s unbelievable! Sometimes I just let it run in my driveway so I can enjoy the sound!

Tell us more about your Camaro RS/SS – what’s going on under the hood?

The power really is unbelievable, the LS3 engine boosts 600 hp. The American Racing Headers give the car a very unique sound that turns almost every head when I’m driving down the street.

What are your favourite upgrades? What are you planning on upgrading next?

I purchased the 3” rectangle exhaust tips from TDot Performance, and as you can see it looks much better than stock. I am currently upgrading the car, in hopes of getting it into the official “Nickey” registry with its own serial number. This includes installing a “FAST” intake manifold that will boost the horsepower to 650.

We love seeing your passion for your ride! Thanks for telling us about it!

Wayne’s 2007 Corvette

Comments (0) Featured, Product Reviews

Wayne Jameson lives on Prince Edward Island, off New Brunswick and Nova Scotia in the Gulf of St. Lawrence. PEI is renowned for its red sand beaches, lighthouses, farmland, and delicious seafood—the perfect setting for cruising in his souped-up black Chevrolet Corvette.

Wayne, how did you become a gearhead?

I love my Corvette! I usually go to the car shows in Moncton, New Brunswick, which are held in the Moncton Coliseum. I am also a member of the PEI Corvette Club, which brings Corvette owners together for events around the island.

Tell us more about your Corvette – what’s going on under the hood?

My 2007 Corvette is a base model with many updates, including a custom vented supercharger hood, custom front splitter, side skirts, Z06-style rear spoiler, Eagle Eyes tail lights, Z06-style aftermarket quarter panels, and 1-inch wheel spacers. I also replaced all the lights with LEDs and and added a Hypertech tuner, a Jet Powr-Flo mass air sensor, and BBK cold air intake.

What are your favourite upgrades? What are you planning on upgrading next?

My favourite mod has to be the bonnet. I like my ’vette to be different from everyone else’s, and it certainly is. I purchased my headers, X-pipe, and power flow sensor from TDot Performance. As for future mods, I would like to do a cam (but I’m not sure yet how I can hide it from my wife!).

Adam’s Toyotas: 4Runner and Tacoma

Comments (1) Featured, Product Reviews

For Adam Hindy of Newfoundland, Canada, adventure is one of the best aspects of life. He has modified both his Toyota 4Runner and Toyota Tacoma for off-road exploring, camping trips, and any other adventures that intrigue him.

Adam, how did you become a gearhead?

For both of these builds, the 2015 Toyota 4Runner Trail Edition, and the 2017 Toyota Tacoma TRD Off-Road, my inspiration was to complement my adventurous lifestyle. The modifications are geared for the ultimate off-roading and overland camping experiences. Although I haven’t signed up for shows, I regularly feature both on my Instagram account, @taco_can_run.

Tell us more about your Toyota’s – what’s going on their hoods?

The 4Runner is a 4×4 that can easily get through trails without missing a beat, with a towing capacity of 4,700 lbs. I’ve added a Bilstein 5100 fr/rr to lift the SUV 1.75” and added Cooper ST Maxx tires. The truck is an off-roading machine. I’ve added a Bilstein 6112 lift kit at 2.5” and front upper control arms from SPC, as well as RCI skid plates and sliders, to protect the Tacoma’s undercarriage when I’m off-roading.

What are your favourite upgrades? What are you planning on upgrading next?

Both vehicles are equipped with Borla exhausts that I purchased via TDot Performance, and I love ’em! It was an excellent buying experience. Up next: Both the SUV and truck will get C4 Lo-Pro bumpers.

We love seeing your passion for your ride! Thanks for telling us about it!

Garry’s 2016 Dodge Charger R/T Scat Pack

Comments (0) Featured, Product Reviews

TDot-Charger-RT
TDot-Charger-RT TDot-Charger-RT-2 TDot-Charger-RT-3
Garry Sooley of Belleville, Ontario, has been working on his 2016 Dodge Charger R/T Scat Pack for the past year and a half—only during spring and summer because it’s stored in the winter for waxing (about 60 coats of wax on Ruby).

Garry, how did you become a gearhead?

My motivation for modifying my cars is simply that I enjoy it and like dressing them up for mine and others’ enjoyment. I got started many years ago with my first performance car, which was a 1975 Camaro. I also modified my 2005 Infinity G35 and 1980 Corvette, which I gave a brand new interior, including seats, carpet, new gauges with a new dash, as well as new exterior paint with flames. Now I’m working on my 2016 Charger. At my age now, I’m starting to slow down, but it keeps me happy and moving.

Tell us more about your Charger R/T Scat Pack- what’s going on under the hood?

Under the hood, I added the original Billet Tech Catch Can, which slows down and filters oil that ends up in the intake and combustion chambers. I also added a front strut bar; a Charger fuse box cover with perforated sides and a cover plate with an etched bee design; a K&N cold air intake system; and a polished fuel rail cover with “392 Hemi” lettering. Inside, I added a red starter button. My 20-inch wheels are by Replika.

What are your favourite upgrades? What are you planning on upgrading next?

My three most favourite mods in order are: the Firehawks Indy tires and rims, the Zauto Tazer, and the rear window louvre. I love the sound and upgrading the engine bay. I’m planning to get a Borla exhaust system soon for my next mod.

We love hearing about your modifications! Thank you for sharing them with us!

Andy’s 2013 Mustang GT

Comments (3) Featured, Product Reviews

Andy Cowden of Cold Lake, Alberta, loves owning a car that is different from all the rest. His 2013 Mustang GT is his latest project for custom modification. Andy especially loves the pure adrenaline from his car’s power and performance.

Andy, how did you become a gearhead?

My motivation to start working on my ride was to have something different from other cars. I previously had a 2007 Mustang that had some small mods, but I realized it was more economical and practical to switch to a newer Mustang. The 2013 Mustang GT came with some mods partially done and I finished and perfected those, and now I’m adding more parts to make it unique.

Tell us more about your Mustang – what’s going on under the hood?

My Mustang has 624 hp with a Paxton Supercharger with Injector Dynamics ID1000 injectors and VMP Boost-a-Pump for better performance. Some other features I’ve added are:
  • Eibach Mustang Sportline Lowering Kit
  • BMR Lower Control Arms
  • Barton Hybrid 3 Short Throw Shifter
  • RST McLeod Clutch
  • GT500 upper and lower grille
  • MRT Window Louvers
  • MagnaFlow Exhaust
  • JLT Cold Air Intake

What are your favourite upgrades? What are you planning on upgrading next?

I ordered the MagnaFlow Exhaust from TDot Performance for my Mustang and am really pleased with it and the fast, free shipping. Next, I’m planning on adding long tube headers c/w with an off-road pipe, a one-piece driveshaft, and upgraded GT500 rear brakes.

We love seeing your passion for your ride! Thanks for telling us about it!

Bob’s Jeep Sahara

Comments (0) Featured, Product Reviews

Tdot-jeep-sahara
Bob Fowler of Victoria Harbour, Ontario, credits love as his motivation to modify his Jeep. He upped the performance and the exterior for his wife, who loves nothing more than spending weekends off-roading together in their rugged SUV. Read on to find out more about the incredible job he’s done.

Bob, how did you become a gearhead?

I got started with modifying my Jeep by looking at what was already out there in the aftermarket, and especially checking out what others were doing. Then, I began adding my own take and ideas to my ride. I love driving my Jeep Sahara every now and then, and it’s been great to see other Jeep enthusiasts admiring it. We are working on putting it on display at car shows in the next year or so.

Tell us more about your Jeep – what’s going on under the hood?

The stock model of 2014 Jeep Sahara Unlimited JK is powered by a Pentastar 3.6-liter V6, which produces 285 hp and 260 ft lbs. of torque. To make it more suitable for our off-roading adventures, I added a 2 1⁄2-inch Teraflex lift and Teraflex front and rear monster track bars, as well as a Rough Country Front Winch bumper paired with Smittybilt Winch with a synthetic rope that can carry a 9,500-lb. load capacity. Our Goodyear DuraTrac 17-inch tires and Rugged Ridge wheels and rim protectors give the Jeep the durability it needs to get through the rough terrain. Smittybilt Limb Risers help protect our windshield from stray rocks and debris and Xprite LED lights in the front and back give us good visibility at night.

What are your favourite upgrades? What are you planning on upgrading next?

The Cobra CB radio is great for my wife and I to listen to our favourite music as we travel through the open terrain. I purchased my AMP PowerSteps from TDot Performance and am still considering what I want to upgrade next.

We love seeing your passion for your ride! Thanks for telling us about it!

Taylor’s Jeep Wrangler Rubicon

Comments (0) Featured, Product Reviews

When Taylor Richard of Amherst, Nova Scotia, originally purchased her jeep, she hadn’t intended to upgrade it. Then slowly but surely, her and her boyfriend started purchasing parts locally to build an off-roading beast of a car that they both enjoy taking for rides.

Taylor, how did you become a gearhead?

I bought my 2017 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon stock without any modifications. At the same time, my boyfriend always dreamed of building an off-road rig. It worked out perfectly: He got to build his new toy and my Jeep looks amazing!

Tell us more about your Jeep – what’s going on under the hood?

We’ve added the following to my Jeep to increase performance:
  • For the build, we’ve upgraded to a 4-inch Pro Comp Lift Kit
  • We added 1 ½-inch wheel spacers and Deep Dish Pro Comp Wheels
  • Mud tires (35 by 12.5)
  • Angry Bird grille

Brian’s Mustang Shelby GT500

Comments (0) Featured, Product Reviews

Meet Brian Bonenfant from Vernon, British Columbia. He is a 71-year-old  retired teacher who loves the speed and power of Mustangs. In fact, he’s owned and modified about a dozen Mustangs in his lifetime, but this is his first Shelby.

Brian, how did you become a gearhead?

I love Mustangs and have always enjoyed making them perform, the best they possibly can. I’ve worked on a dozen Mustangs over the years but being retired, I have more time to enjoy it. For the past few years, I’ve taken my Shelby to multiple shows, especially the bigger ones, and it gets a lot of attention and compliments. I also am part of an association that gets together for track days. They’re great because you get to see what your car can do for real: 160 miles per hour down the straights, and 100 miles per hour around the corners.

Tell us more about your Shelby GT500 – what’s going on under the hood?

I don’t want to change the looks of the car, so I haven’t made upgrades to the exterior. My focus is on power and speed. With different modifications, I’ve increased the Shelby’s horsepower to 600 (that’s 100 more than stock), and have plans to increase it to 650 to 700 hp. It really performs. It sticks like glue to the ground.

What are your favourite upgrades? What are you planning on upgrading next?

One of my favourites is the Spec Stage 3 Clutch that I had custom-made just south of Las Vegas. It’s a performance clutch for dragging and slipstreaming. The Airaid Cold Air Intake also was big for getting more airflow. The new Michelin tires are also a pretty special upgrade. I have about $1,000 worth of add-ons still planned for the car, including a bigger cold air intake for one. We love seeing the awesome upgrades to your GT500! Thanks for sharing it with us!

Jonathan’s Dodge Ram 1500 SLT

Comments (0) Featured, Product Reviews

Jonathan San-Pedro lives in Alliston, Ontario, and loves nothing more than modifying his cars to have real individuality. He displayed his first car, a Honda Civic, at the Darknights Nationals, which was a pioneering modified car show in Canada that ran from 1999 to 2006.

Jonathan, how did you become a gearhead?

My love for modifying cars started when I was 16. It’s the pride in making a common ride unique that excites me. I love seeing the finished product and its unique style.

Tell us more about your Ram 1500 SLT – what’s going on under the hood?

My car is a 2010 Dodge Ram 1500 SLT. It has Flowmaster 50 Series HD Mufflers, which are designed for Dodge trucks to increase mileage, torque, and horsepower. I added K&N 57 Series Air Intake and I upgraded the tires to 20-inch Duratracs and added 20-inch Vision Empire Rims. It also has a customized engine cover to give it an extra shot of uniqueness.

What are your favourite upgrades?

I ordered the 2-inch Tuff Country Levelling Kit from TDot Performance and I love the look of my Ram with the lift and new tires. Another favourite is the Spyder Automotive Halo Projector headlights—they really give my truck a sleek styling. We can see your love for your Dodge! Thanks for sharing it with us!
